Madrid Gráfica 2017.
Call for Posters “The Light City”

Over half of the World´s population lives in cities. Despite the important problems they must face as a result of high growth, cities continue to be more the solution than the problem.

The biggest challenge in the 21st century is to find new urban models that change the logic which has generated some of the worst problems in cities.

Mobility has become one of the most important of those problems. We live in “heavy” cities when we should be living in “light” ones.

Content and motto

The content of this first open call will move around the concept of Light City. This should be both the content and motto to be included -in the chosen language- in all the posters by the author or authors.

The goal of the Contest is twofold:

– The first, to show graphics and its practitioners’ capacities to deal with issues that concern society and to do so in an appealing way.

– The second objective is to visually spread the Motto and the content of the call, in this case The Light City, and to successfully get the posters to transmit concepts relating to better urban mobility expressed openly and freely by the author or authors, following the definition included under the terms of this call.

All the posters will be exhibited at the Central de Diseño de Matadero Madrid.

Jury:

In order to guarantee the high level of the jury and to ensure that the submitted proposals comply with the values stated above, five first class international graphic designers have been appointed. Carmelo di Bartolo, the industrial designer and Bionic expert from Milan, has been requested to attend as the sixth member of the jury for being one of the promoters and creators of the term Light City. They have all confirmed their participation:

  • Alejandro Magallanes. Mexico
  • Ivan Chermayeff. USA
  • Mirko Ilic. Bosnia/USA
  • Alain Le Quernec. France
  • Pekka Loiri. Finland
  • Carmelo di Bartolo. Italy

The six members of the jury will assess the submitted work, and select those that they consider to be most significant, up to 100. They will later select the winner of the 2017 Open Call.

These 100 selected posters will be exhibited at Central de Diseño Madrid.

Terms of admision

Each participant may submit one poster. The chosen motto “La Ciudad Ligera / The Light City”, must appear on the poster in the language chosen by the participant.
