About

Central de Diseño is a space located at Matadero Madrid, a landmark cultural centre of the city, that gathers together multiple contemporary creative expressions (‘the most innovative and modern art space in Madrid el más innovador y alternativo espacio para el arte de Madrid’, according to The New York Times).

Central de Diseño is managed by Fundación Diseño Madrid (DIMAD), thanks to an agreement with Madrid City Hall. Its main objective is to foster, promote and develop design culture in all its forms and to establish Madrid as an international design landmark. Its main areas of activity are: exhibitions and venues, training and providing services for designers and companies. It currently receives an average of 20,000 visitors per month, a figure that is rapidly increasing by the day. DIMAD works for the Central de Diseño to be a place of communication between design and the city.

The restauration works carried out in the building, designed by José Antonio García Roldán in 2007, allowed the strength of the decaying constructive elements to combine with recycled and recyclable materials: detachable polycarbonate for the light screens, industrial trays made out of recycled car bumpers for the floor, galvanized iron and glass.
